Our mission
The mission of Proyecto Itzaes is focused on establishing academic programs that will provide the necessary opportunities for young people in the villages of Yucatan to obtain an education. Proyecto Itzaes aims to provide real reasons and avenues for the villagers to develop their skills, promote their knowledge, and continue teaching their learning. Our goals are to build long-term community programs that promote unity within the family and community as well as strengthen respect for the Mayan culture. Education will create new opportunities for young people to develop their skills and talents in a constantly changing world.

Education
We are committed to making the changes necessary to make a difference.

Ka'ambal U tia'al Ka'ansaj : Learning to Teach : Learning in Order to Teach

Proyecto Itzaes (PI)
A free, 501(c)(3) community organization focused on providing educational services to slums in Yucatán, Mexico. The organization began in 1995 and was founded by Cynthia Wilber. Proyecto Itzaes translates as "People's Project." Proyecto Itzaes helps communities where dependence on traditional housing and seasonal fishing does not generate enough income to support families.

Commitment...
Currently, we are providing funding for the towns of Chicxulub Puerto, Ixil, Mococha, Dzemul, and Too. Chicxulub Puerto was the first town where we began providing services through the Itzaes Project, and in 2005, we managed to make it self-sustaining.
